Shower thought: Users come to Thalassophobia not out of fear of the deep, but rather out of sheer awe of a foreign environment.

In response to a user asking why a video of the deep ocean was posted, I thought I'd share this perspective. A lot of us subscribe to Thalassophobia not to reinforce a fear of the deep, but rather to enjoy and marvel at the spectacle of the ocean. Its not a place that we'd feel comfortable in for sure, but its an ecosystem that is vitally important.I view Thalassophobia not as a "fear of the deep ocean", but respect for the ocean. Its an environment that we acknowledge we are not suited for and our fear in a sense is a form of respect. We're acknowledging that we have no true place in the ocean, it is an alien environment that forces us to realize our own mortality and limits.
